Aljoscha
Artista
Aljoscha, born Oleksii Potupin, is a Ukrainian visual artist known for large-scale conceptual installations, sculptures, site-specific works, paintings, and drawings based on ideas of bioism, biofuturism, bioethics, and bioethical abolitionism. In his practice, the Düsseldorf-based Ukrainian artist Aljoscha explores the visual possibilities of synthetic biology and the new aesthetics of biofuturism and bioethical abolitionism. His organically shaped sculptures made of acrylic glass and metal are attempts to map the organic life of the future—something the artist calls bioism (a term he coined). Aljoscha’s highly complex and delicate artworks challenge the classical canon. They seem to evoke Bergson’s once-popular concept of the élan vital, based on the self organization and spontaneous morphogenesis of living organisms.
